Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24

Often, we think of our jobs as an act of labor or simply a way to make ends meet but as this verse from Colossians reminds us, we are serving the Lord, not just our employers. Our job and career choices should reflect Christ and should not be solely focused on financial reward. Sometimes we will lose or walk away from a job because of God. He knew that we were living out of accordance with His will and He wanted more for us. Sometimes a job will open up to us because God knows that we can better serve and reflect Christ in a new position as opposed to our last.
