Woman Praising God

Waiting seasons are rarely easy. Whether you are waiting for answered prayers, direction, healing, restoration, or a breakthrough, the process can sometimes feel discouraging and exhausting. Yet throughout Scripture, God often used seasons of waiting to strengthen His people, deepen their faith, and draw them closer to Him. What feels like a delay may actually be a season of spiritual growth.

While it can be difficult to recognize God’s work in the middle of uncertainty, there are often subtle signs He is shaping your heart behind the scenes. You may notice greater endurance, deeper prayer, increased contentment, or a stronger awareness of His presence in your everyday life. These are not accidents — they may be evidence that God is preparing you for something greater.

Here are six signs God may be growing you in the waiting — even when you cannot yet see the full picture.

1. You Have a Strong Prayer Life

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24).

What are you currently waiting for? Maybe you are waiting for God to answer a prayer. If you have seen your prayer life strengthen and improve, it could be because God is growing you in the waiting. No, it might not be pleasant, but God is increasing your faith and growth as a follower of Christ. This is a great privilege and blessing.

Don't lose hope; keep on praying. Even if you feel like your prayers are going unnoticed, know that God always hears your prayers. And He will answer them in His proper time. Trust God and continue to pray to Him. Present all your worries, fears, and concerns to Him (1 Peter 5:6-7).

2. You Have Increased Endurance

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4).

Like building endurance for a marathon, you may have had to build endurance in your spiritual walk with the Lord. You have learned what it means to be patient, humble, and understanding others. This is a hallmark of growth in a waiting period. Rather than thinking something terrible is happening to you when you face various obstacles, take joy in knowing your endurance is increasing.

The more endurance you have, the more growth you will experience as a Christ follower. Take a look at your life: have you been more patient with others? Perhaps you have learned to forgive without holding onto a grudge. This is a clear sign that you are growing.

3. You Are Not Polluted by the World

“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God” (James 4:4).

In this waiting period, have you felt more disconnected from the world but more connected with God? Perhaps this is because God is growing you through this present season. Rather than being polluted by the world, your faith is deepening. When you see God, you know that He is all that you need.

The things of this world will come and go, but God’s Word stands forever (Matthew 24:35). If you notice you are paying more attention to God than to the world around you, you are growing. Find joy in this truth and keep up the good work! God wants you to continue to follow Him and grow in this waiting period.

4. You Are Noticing God in Your Daily Life

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17).

A clear sign God is growing you in the waiting is if you are noticing Him in your daily life. Perhaps you used to overlook God, but now you see His fingerprint in everything you do – the smile of a friend, the beautiful sunset, or the twinkling stars at night. Seeing God in your everyday life attests to life-changing work in your heart and soul.

Continue to let Him shape and mold you. Everything He brings into your life is good; trust Him with the process. Although some growth can be painful, you will emerge victorious.

5. You Are Content

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs” (1 Timothy 6:6-10).

Contentment is not common in the modern day; most people are always demanding more. They may want more money, more clothes, or more social media followers. However, you don't operate like this. You are content with the life God has given you. You are not endlessly beating the wind or always trying to prove yourself. Instead, you are happy, joyful, and content.

This is a sign you are growing in the waiting. God will continue to grow you, but wait on His timing. Rejoice in your present growth and look back at how far you have come. It can bring great joy into your heart when you see how far the Lord has brought you.

6. You Feel Different

“However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).

While it is not wise to base everything on feelings, sometimes an overall change in how you feel can signal growth in your life. If you feel you are growing closer to God and growing stronger in your faith, it could be because you truly are. Allow the Lord to shape your character and mold you into the person He created you to be.

Waiting is never wasted when God is involved. Even in seasons that feel slow, uncertain, or painful, He is often shaping your faith, strengthening your character, and drawing you closer to Him. Growth does not always happen in dramatic moments — sometimes it develops quietly through prayer, endurance, contentment, and trust. If you recognize these signs in your life, take heart. God is still working, even in the waiting, and He may be preparing you for something far greater than you can currently see.
