Gavin Sheets is the first baseman for the San Diego Padres. He was
originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2014, but chose not to
sign and instead attended Wake Forest University. He was drafted by
the Chicago White Sox in the 2017 draft and signed with the White
Sox. After spending a few seasons in the minor leagues, he made his
major league debut during the 2021 season. He was not offered a
contract by the White Sox following the 2024 season and signed with
the Padres in February 2025. He was named to the major league roster
and hit a solo home run in his first at-bat with the Padres.
During the 2025 season, he discussed his struggles with the White Sox
and his career path in general, and stated that he had earlier made
baseball an idol. When asked about who Jesus is to him, Gavin said,
"Jesus Christ is my Savior. He's my Savior, He's my Friend…He's
everything that you want a man to be in your life. He's my
everything."
