His father, Ether Moroni Furnier, was a preacher in the Church of Jesus Christ, a restorationist Christian group, and his grandfather was also a church leader. Most fans watching Cooper’s dramatic performances would never guess this background.
As Cooper became more famous, he struggled with alcohol and drug addiction. These problems eventually put his health, marriage, and family at risk. After getting sober, Cooper returned to the Christian faith he grew up with.
