Most people know Adam Driver from Star Wars, but not everyone knows he grew up with a Baptist minister as his stepfather.
Driver was born in California, but after his parents divorced, he moved with his mother to Mishawaka, Indiana. His mother later married Rodney G. Wright, a Baptist minister, so church became a regular part of Driver’s teenage years.
Driver has talked about growing up in a religious home, going to church, and even singing in the church choir. But his journey from small-town Indiana to Hollywood was far from predictable.
After the September 11 attacks, Driver joined the United States Marine Corps. He trained for deployment but was medically discharged after an injury. Later, he enrolled at Juilliard, which led to roles in HBO’s Girls, the Star Wars movies, Marriage Story, and BlacKkKlansman.
