Some are surprised to learn that Alice Cooper is a devout, born-again Christian because of his notorious shock rock stage presence. But that is just a theatrical role he plays to push his stage character. Many aren't aware that Cooper's father and grandfather were both Christian pastors and ministers.
At the height of his fame, he struggled with severe alcohol addiction. His addiction nearly cost him everything. After entering treatment, Cooper says the physical craving vanished entirely after a few days. The medical community viewed his complete and immediate lack of relapse as a one-in-a-million impossibility for someone with his usage history.
As Cooper says, "'You're a cured alcoholic.' And I go, 'No, I was a healed alcoholic.' God took it away from me." He views his recovery process as an "absolute miracle" directly from God.
