Matthew McConaughey grew up in Texas, but he didn’t move back until he started a family of his own.
McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, were living in Malibu with their three children when a family emergency took them to Texas for a few weeks. Alves noticed her husband seemed calmer there. While driving through the Texas Hill Country, she asked if he wanted to move back.
His answer was simple: “Yep.”
The family settled in Texas, and McConaughey said the move brought back routines they had been missing.
“Ritual came back,” he told Southern Living, mentioning Sunday church, sports, family dinners every night, and evenings spent telling stories together. “Time slowed down,” he added.
