Texas State Senator Angela Paxton has announced she is filing for divorce from her husband, Attorney General Ken Paxton, citing “biblical grounds” following what she described as “recent discoveries.”

In a heartfelt message posted to her official X account on Thursday, Angela Paxton shared that after nearly four decades of marriage, she felt the decision was necessary to honor God and protect her family.

“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” she wrote. “But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”

Angela, who is also a devout Christian, concluded her message by expressing trust in God’s sovereign plan: “I move forward with complete confidence that God is always working everything together for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose.”

Shortly after her post, Ken Paxton issued his public statement, calling their split the result of “the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny.” He did not reference the divorce filing’s allegation of adultery but emphasized his continued support for their children and grandchildren. “I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with,” he said. “I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time.”

The divorce petition reportedly claims the marriage is “insupportable” and references infidelity, stating that the relationship has suffered irreparable damage and that reconciliation is no longer reasonable.

The timing of the announcement is significant, coming as Ken Paxton launches a campaign for U.S. Senate, challenging incumbent Republican Sen. John Cornyn. Known for his bold legal challenges to federal policies and for advancing conservative values, Paxton has been a polarizing figure in Texas and national politics.

In 2023, Paxton faced impeachment over allegations of misconduct while in office, leading to his temporary suspension. The Texas Senate acquitted him and reinstated him later that year. Throughout the ordeal, he received strong backing from former President Donald Trump and many grassroots conservatives.

The Paxtons have long been viewed as a political power couple in Texas, often championing Christian values and conservative policies. Their separation is likely to send ripples through both political and faith communities in the state.

Though the future remains uncertain, Angela Paxton’s statement makes one thing clear: her trust is in God’s redemptive purpose, even in the midst of personal heartache.
