Riley Gaines, the former collegiate swimmer and outspoken advocate for women’s sports, has officially taken on a brand-new role — mom. Gaines and her husband, British swimmer Louis Barker, welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Margot, September 29th.

“There’s nothing that could’ve prepared me for a love like this,” Gaines wrote in a heartfelt social media post announcing the birth. “God has blessed us beyond belief. Welcome to the world, sweet Margot.” Alongside the caption, she shared tender photos of herself and Barker cradling their newborn daughter.

The couple’s story has captured national attention, not only for Gaines’ high-profile advocacy but also for her faith and courage through every season of life. Married since 2022, Gaines and Barker met while swimming for the University of Kentucky in 2019 and have often shared how their shared values and determination have anchored them.

Even during her pregnancy, Gaines continued to show her trademark grit. At 31 weeks pregnant, she swam 1.25 miles from the shore of San Francisco to the infamous Alcatraz Island — alongside Navy SEALs, veterans, and her husband. The incredible feat symbolized the perseverance and faith that have defined her career.

Gaines announced her pregnancy publicly back in June at a Turning Point USA event in Texas, where she addressed comments from Olympic gymnast Simone Biles amid an online feud over the issue of transgender athletes in women’s sports. With a smile, Gaines responded to critics while proudly showing her baby bump to the cheering crowd: “How many men do you know that have this?”

Her husband also took the stage, reflecting on the mission that fuels their advocacy. “The next generation that our little girl is going to be a part of, that is who you all are fighting for and who Turning Point is fighting for,” Barker said. “And so from a father-to-be, thank you, keep fighting … and thank you.”

The couple’s daughter, Margot, now enters a world her parents have passionately spoken about protecting — one where women can compete fairly and without compromise. Gaines’ faith-filled message following her daughter’s birth highlights what’s always been at the center of her story: a deep belief that life, love, and purpose all come from God.

As Gaines adjusts to motherhood, her post reflects both humility and awe. “There’s nothing that could’ve prepared me for a love like this,” she wrote again — words that ring true for so many new parents.

For Riley Gaines and Louis Barker, this moment marks the beginning of a new chapter — one defined not by podiums or protests, but by diapers, late-night feedings, and the quiet, sacred joy of family.
