According to a new report by WalletHub, Massachusetts is the best place to raise a family. WalletHub compared the 50 states to determine the best place to raise a family. The states were evaluated and ranked across five different categories: Family Fun, Health & Safety, Education & Child Care, Affordability and Socio-economics. WalletHub also used 50 relevant metrics including pediatricians per capita, day-care services and quality and housing affordability. Each metric was graded on a 100-point-scale to determine which states had the highest favored conditions for raising a family. Not only did the report find the most affordable state to live in during times of inflation, but it also took into consideration states with good schools, entertainment and healthcare.

Massachusetts tops the list for the second year in a row as the best state to raise a family. The New England state earned a total score of 66.67 and ranked first place for education and child care. Not only is Massachusetts the home to some of the best schools in the country such as Harvard and MIT, their public schools are among the best in the world. However, Massachusetts cost of living is 50 percent higher than the national average.

In second place is North Dakota. The Midwest state ranked No. 2 in education and childcare along with No. 1 for socioeconomics. According to Forbes, North Dakota is one of the states in the U.S. with the lowest unemployment rates at 1.9 percent. The cost of living in North Dakota is 4 percent lower than the national average, housing is 12 percent lower than the national average and utilities are 0 percent. Coming in third place as the best state to raise a family is Minnesota. Nebraska, New York, Maine, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Rhode Island and Vermont following in the remaining spots for top ten best states to raise a family.
