Singer and actress Kelly Rowland recently reflected on the struggles and joys of parenting in an interview with Kindred by Parents. She told the outlet, “I just want to get this right. I want to really be part of bringing some really amazing young men forth into the world. That was my only prayer.”

She continued, “I don’t know why I’m emotional, but my only prayer was to have really great young Black men in this world who were sure of themselves and didn’t have to be told who they were. I really cared about that because the narrative is tough as it is.” Rowland shares two sons, Titan and Noah, with her husband, Tim Weatherspoon.

The musician highlighted the importance of celebrating and fostering children and their interests. She said, “If we’re going to grow our kids, like, let’s be lost in their interests and the things that bring them joy. Let’s have joy with them about it.” Rowland added, “I’ll sit out here and watch him do basketball or do whatever it is that he loves so much because I want him to know that I see it. It’s wonderful. It’s worth celebrating. You’re worth celebrating. Your try is worth celebrating. I love all that is you.”

Her faith also informs her parenting. The singer shared how after her son Titan was upset, she helped him visualize “Footprints in the Sand” by Mary Stevenson. She told the outlet, “Titan confirmed that he could see his own footprints and God’s, the expanse of the sky and the blue of the ocean in his mind’s eye.”

Rowland continued, I said, ‘That’s God next to you at all times. That’s how close he is. You saw how big the ocean was? How big the sky was?’ I was like, ‘That’s God. He’s always next to us.” The musician admitted that parenting is hard and told Kindred that she focuses on grace. She said, “I hate to mess up. But I’m literally giving myself grace. I’m learning that maybe all of the decisions that my mom made were not the greatest decisions. And I’m trying to change that this generation.”

Rowland said previously, “It’s okay to ask for help or advice. I was very nervous about my level of patience prior to being a mom. It’s an essential, and you have to have it with kids, especially as they’re figuring everything out.” She explained, “I also have to have patience with myself to know that I won’t know everything every single time and that I have to give myself grace.”

Rowland has previously shared how her faith in God has helped her through every stage of life, from her time in Destiny’s Child and now as a solo artist and mother. “I believe in God, I believe in Jesus, I believe in faith more than I do religion,” Rowland told Kirk Franklin on his GOOD WORKS podcast. “It’s such a personal walk, and it’s carried me.”

Rowland continued, “It’s made me the woman that I am. It’s making me the mother that I am. It’s continuing to make me the woman that I am. It’s teaching me how to be a wife. It’s continuously stretching me.”
