Our world is becoming a scary place to live.  There are earthquakes and hurricanes, tornadoes and floods.  Even droughts and extreme temperatures are becoming more common.   That’s only in the realm of weather patterns!

We look at our economy, the debt ceiling, our national credit rating, joblessness, political unrest, wars and rebellions all around the world.  That’s enough to make anyone a little nervous.  As Christians we know that God is still in control.  We understand that He is overseeing it all, but still…..

When there is no paycheck, unemployment has run out, and you have a family to feed, sometimes it’s hard to walk in faith.  Many people have had their homes repossesed and the utilities shut off.  Homelessness is on the rise and government programs are in danger of being adjusted.

In Philipians 4:19 we are told, “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  Can we believe God’s word even in the midst of such a troublesome place?   I think we can.  I will not tell it’s easy, but it is possible.

Often when I am facing a financial need, I remember Psalm 50:10, “For every beast of the forest is mine and the cattle on a thousand hills.”  Cattle was a sign of wealth in Bible times, so I think God has us covered.  A thousand hills can hold a lot of cows.  So, if I need money, I just ask God to sell a few cows.  I know that sounds silly, but it is an illustration that anyone can comprehend.  If God owns it all, then surely He can meet my needs.

When things around us are falling apart and our personal world is spinning out of control, Jesus is our safe place.  He is our hiding place.  Psalm32:7 “Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.”  He is trustworthy!!
