There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful. He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request. 1 Chronicles 4:9,10
A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. Luke 5:7
Jabez prays, “God, bless me indeed. Expand my territory. Let your hand be with me…” Today I’m fixed on that … “let your hand be with me…” In the midst of blessing as our territory is expanding and exploding we get in over our heads. Blessing and expanse can be overwhelming. Blessing and favor and increase are also a test of faith. Too good can be too much. And here we need help.
Today we pray for God’s hand of blessing, as in helping hand, to carry the loads that are too much for us…
“Father, you are expanding our territory. You are blessing with opportunity. Thank you for that trust. But now we need more. We need your help to muster and master the gifts of possibility you are opening for us. We have prayed for chances to lead, and to help others lead well. Now we need you to lead us, to lead us well, to lead us by expanding our time, our focus, our energy, our concentration, our memories. We need to be more than ourselves. We need Your mind. We receive your mighty help to steward what you have entrusted to us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
