A powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch on Tuesday at the height of the workday. The quake toppled buildings, crushing vehicles and killing at least 65 people. Others are injured and some remain trapped.

This earthquake is the second to hit Christchurch, a city of 350,000, in five months. The epicenter was near the city and just 5 kilometers below the surface. It may be one of the country’s worst natural disasters.

“God, we pray for the residents of Christchurch. We pray first for calm and a settling of fear. We pray for rescue for anyone still trapped. Give them strength and wisdom for those working to restore order. We pray for healing for those injured and comfort for those who have lost loved ones. In Jesus’ name, bless  New Zealand in the midst of this tragedy.”
