Not to discredit the Golden Globes, but really, don’t most of us think of that award show as an appetizer to the Oscars? This morning, January 16, the nominations were read for this year’s awards by Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs and actor Chris Hemsworth in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.

The movies with the most nominations are American Hustle and Gravity (10), 12 Years a Slave (9), Nebraska, Dallas Buyers Club and Captain Phillips (6).

The Academy Awards will be presented live on March 2, 2014 on ABC with Ellen DeGeneres Hosting.
