Three things that made me happy this week:
1. Black Mountain at the Williamsburg Music Hall ($16)
2. Ninjasonik at Lit ($6)

3. Thanks to the Brooklyn Bike Slug, this sweet new ride:

A few weeks ago, I blogged here about my father’s illness, health in general, and about about how much I wanted a bitchin’ new scooter to cheer me up. (An avocado green Stella, specifically. With all the chrome.) Unfortunately, I still haven’t gotten around to getting a NY motorcycle license, and with the economy in such a handbasket right now, large non-essential purchases are probably not smart.
Small non-essential impulse buys, however, are brilliant! They may only lead to conditional happiness, but hell — conditional happiness, in the face of suffering (attachment, aversion, more attachment, ignorance), sounds like a great idea right now. So: going out to see your two new favorite bands in the same week (and getting the song “Somebody’s Gonna get Pregnant” stuck in your head for three days) — that’s definitely work six bucks. And a shiny new gold bicycle? With a banana seat? Priceless.
