American track and field sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, who in April of this year became the sixth fastest woman of all time, has been disqualified from the Summer Olympics based on a 30 day suspension for the presence of THC in her system. This is the active ingredient found in cannabis. The astrology is fascinating… but before I get into that, let’s talk about the obvious.

In no way does anyone believe cannabis is a “performance enhancing drug” (unless you’re somehow getting your pharmaceutical information from 1950s public service announcements). Anyone who is capable of winning an Olympic medal while under the influence of cannabis should probably receive an extra medal as well. The only way having THC in your bloodstream is going to enhance your performance is if they’ve made “eating Doritos and watching cartoons” an Olympic event… and I’m pretty sure they haven’t because I would have qualified for the team by now. Besides being an Olympic athlete requires a clear mind and quick responses… and yet somehow caffeine isn’t a banned substance. Someone explain that to me, please.

The body in charge of testing and handing out suspensions (in this case The United States Anti-Doping Agency, or USADA) even seems to be tacitly willing to admit the dumbness of all this. Most of the suspensions they hand out last for at least a year, and Sha’Carri ‘s suspension only lasts a month.

But I digress: on with the astrology!

Sha’Carri was born March 25 2000, time unknown, in Dallas, Texas. Like many of us have experienced in the last year, her current round of troubles are coming from the ongoing Saturn-Uranus Square. She herself was born during the previous Saturn-Uranus square — but that doesn’t help as much as you might think. You see, right now transiting Uranus is within a degree of her Saturn in Taurus and transiting Saturn is approaching the conjunction to her natal Uranus in Aquarius. You could almost think of that as a “double whammy” aspect.

(…And by the way if you were born in 2000 you should probably be paying attention to Saturn and Uranus yourself this year)

That transit wasn’t enough to trigger this disruption to Sha’Carri ‘s Olympic dreams on its own. It was with the addition of Mars at 12 degrees Leo, also square her natal Saturn, that made things fall apart on July 1st of this year.

I’ve reached out to Sha’Carri on Twitter to find out what her time of birth is. If we knew that, we could tell where her Midheaven is and that would tell us more how her career is going ended how we’ll be going in future. Today on Twitter, she said that she may not be making the Olympics but she’s going to be winning the World next year. Frankly, I hope she does.
