Olympic gold medalist, Shawn Johnson, reveals that her children were under lockdown at their nearby school during the Nashville school shooting at The Covenant School. While Johnson says that she is thankful that her children are safe and at home, she is devastated that other families can’t say the same. She wrote an update saying, “I haven’t been able to catch my breath since reading the news and getting a call from our school that they were on lockdown as well given the news. Shaking. Crying. Heartbroken. Horrific.” She added saying, “Our babies are now home with us. I feel lucky and blessed but still so incredibly sad. No parent or family should ever have to deal with this.” Johnson, who is married to former NFL player, Andrew East, spoke about the tragic day saying, “Today has changed me.” Johnson and East share two children together, three-year-old Drew and one-year-old Jett.

Johnson also posted an Instagram update detailing her feelings waking up the morning after the heartbreaking day. She took to Instagram with a photo of the names of the lives lost yesterday, writing a lengthy caption about her experience so close to the chaos. “I woke up this morning in tears feeling guilt and sadness that we are ok and some families are not. I woke up scared to take our babies back to school or anywhere for that matter. I woke up sad for everyone, for our country, our world,” said Johnson. “I know prayers can’t take it back but I’m still going to pray like hell. I believe our God is good. It’s all I can believe in right now. My faith is all I can lean on right now. God, please save us all from this evil.”
