The day I finally met Noonie Thompson was a good one. I had heard about her through various friends and she was described as bigger than life itself…

Beautiful, brilliant, funny… mother of 4 kids, wife of DT (a very cool guy) and a radiation oncologist. I just couldn’t figure out how someone could do it all until we met. Then I understood – she had a kinetic energy and warmth that made her stand apart. She is one of those special people who thinks about others before herself.

Ten years later, Noonie  (Dr. Elizabeth Chabner Thompson to most!) is still doing that. She has taken her energy, warmth and experience both as a patient and as an oncologist to launch a company near and dear to her heart. What a treat it is to feature BFFL (Best Friend For Life) on Lemons to Lemonade.

Cancer diagnosis are scary and Noonie has seen that first hand many times. It wasn’t until she faced the decision herself to have a prophylactic mastectomy that she experienced what many of her patients did first hand. It was in the hospital the morning after the procedure that it dawned on her that her needs weren’t being met. The brainstorm came to her at that time – an in hospital care package was needed containing both the little things that were missing and the big.

The BFFL breast bag is the first in a series of products. It is the ideal gift to give a friend or family member who is facing breast cancer. The bag has EVERY single essential item and then some in it.

The bag itself is a keeper – light weight and stain resistant with metal feet to keep it on the hospital floor. Inside the bag are items to treat and comfort the patient. It has everything from a specially designed axilla pillow, to a drain care pack with supplies and instructions, to a toiletries pack with items like a toothbrush, nail kit and eye drops to help with dry eyes after surgery.

The bag retails for $99 and 15% of the profits are donated to Cancer1source.org

Nothing has been missed here. And Noonie is already creating her next series of bags: a bag for traumatic brain injury and a bag for new mothers.

She is on to something, which is no surprise. Noonie is something and someone to watch!
