End of school, graduations, confirmations, weddings…May is a busy month! If rolling extra things into your “regular life” has you feeling frazzled, here’s a ten minute tip that can help to bring balance and control back into your life:

(This is tip #11 from my book, Take Care Tips, which offers 101 Ten MInute Tips to help you care for yourself while you’re takig care of others).

When you’re feeling overwhelmed, out of control, over-burdened, you need to summon the super power of both sides of your brain.

That’s not easy to do when you’re feeling stressed.  My friend, Health Psychologist Dr. Nancy Mramor, offers this little trick; sit quietly with your feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths in and out.  Next, move your hands together and lightly bring the tips of your fingers together…try barely touching fingertips (eyes still closed). Feel the energy.

Dr. Mramor says this action works to balance your brain, bringing the strengths from the left and right brain together to give you the mental blast you need to work your way through any trouble.

Nice, huh?

p.s. When you do the breathing, sit straight with your feet flat on the floor and place your hands on your belly at first, as a reminder to breathe from your belly.  When we’re stressed, we become “shallow breathers”, our breathing starts and stops high in the chest.  To fill up with stress-releiving oxygen, make sure you take nice, slow, deep breaths…in through the nose, out through the mouth.
