What if we are meant to understand the scriptures by doing them?
For example, when we read passages like Nehemiah 1 or Daniel 9 we discover two men confessing the sins of their people.  What does it mean to know these passages?  Is it to have a cognitive understanding of them or should be able to do what these men are doing?  Jazzaneutics pushes towards the doing as asks the basic question, “When was the last time you confessed the sins of your people?”

Or take Acts 17.16-34 where Paul is able to present the gospel by connecting it to the poetry, spirituality and philosophy of the city of Athens, without quoting scripture.  There is much to be learned from what is being said in this passage but should we do what Paul did?  Can we present the gospel through our culture like Paul?  Can we present Jesus in a way that brings people to Christ without using scripture?  If we can’t then do we truly know the passage?

Can we just know our scriptures or do we know our scriptures by doing them…jazz says we don’t know until we can do.

Can you think other passages that we can not understand them until we do them?
