In a heartwarming bodycam video, it shows a Florida deputy jumping into action and helping a women give birth on the side of the highway. Master Deputy Daniel “Red” Jones was approached on the highway by a driver saying that his wife was about to give birth, resulting in Jones offering encouragement and support while the mother gave birth to her sixth child. Jones offered encouraging words for the mother along with a light-hearted joke. “Is this your first baby?” Jones asked. The women replied with “no,” where she then told the officer that this is her sixth. “Six! Woo! Y’all need a better hobby!” said Jones, as the pair laughed together.

When it became obvious that the ambulance would not make it in time, Jones jumped into action using his training to safely deliver the baby in the car. “Within minutes, a beautiful, healthy baby girl was born,” said the sheriff’s office in a statement. Jones says that he was “thrilled” to help with the safe arrival of the baby. The baby’s father, Luis Lopez, told WTSP-TV that the baby girl’s name is Lexela Luis Lopez. “This is his third time assisting a citizen with delivering a baby!” said sheriff Chad Chronister. “While delivering in the front seat of a car was not the original birth plan, Master Deputy Jones reassured the mother of six that she was in good hands. I wish mom, dad, and their new baby girl all the joy and happiness,” Chronister said. “Congratulations!”
