Would you accept a raise that was over $2,000?

Doug Findlater, the mayor of West Kelowna, British Columbia, decided to write a check and give his raise of $2,762.37 back to the people of West Kelowna.  Each year, the city council meets to determine the mayor’s raise.  This year, Findlater declined to be a part of the deliberations and also attempted to turn down the raise.

When Findlater’s decision to decline the raise proved unsuccessful (he was required to accept it), he wrote a check instead to return the money.  “The only thing I could do was give the money back. A 4.75% increase is not right in these times,” Findlater said.
