Kid Rock says longtime friend Eminem will appear on his upcoming Christian rock album, Halfway to Jesus, on a new song about staying connected despite political differences.

Kid Rock revealed Thursday that Eminem will appear on “7 Sins,” one of the tracks on the faith-focused album. The unexpected pairing quickly caught fans’ attention, and some even questioned whether the collaboration was real.

A representative for Eminem confirmed to Complex that the track is official and will appear on the album.

Kid Rock says the collaboration reflects a message he believes people need to hear, especially as political disagreements continue to divide friends and families.

“I’m proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem,” Kid Rock wrote in an excerpt from the album’s foreword obtained by Complex. “His verse speaks to something we’ve talked about, and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all.”

“We hope that sets an example for people who’ve lost friends or stopped talking to family because they think differently,” he added.

That message of maintaining relationships despite disagreement fits naturally alongside an album that finds Kid Rock increasingly putting faith at the center of his music.

Halfway to Jesus features several explicitly Christian references, including the lead single, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King).” The song takes its title from the New Testament verse that says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”

Kid Rock released the official music video for “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)”, the same day he revealed the album’s tracklist. A release date for the full project has not yet been announced.

The Eminem collaboration is also a reunion decades in the making. Eminem appeared on a track from Kid Rock’s 1998 album Devil Without a Cause, and Kid Rock later made a cameo in Eminem’s 2013 “Berzerk” music video.

Their political paths have since looked very different. Kid Rock has been an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump, while Eminem has been a vocal critic of Trump.

As Kid Rock prepares to release an album centered heavily on his Christian faith, he says their friendship has endured — and he hopes that example will encourage others to choose relationships over political division.
