As NFL teams prepare for the upcoming season, New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson is making it clear that his greatest source of strength isn’t found on the football field—it’s found in Jesus Christ.
The 23-year-old former Ohio State standout shared a heartfelt message on X over the weekend, reflecting on a popular saying about faith and hardship. While many say, “God gives His toughest battles to His toughest soldiers,” Henderson believes Scripture paints a different picture.
“I see a strong and mighty God choosing weak men and women, and empowering them by His Holy Spirit to face some of the toughest battles and be used for His glory,” Henderson wrote. “I once thought I was a ‘tough soldier’ until I met Jesus, then I realized that I’m so weak without Him, and apart from Jesus I can’t do anything.”
Henderson said his relationship with Christ has taught him to depend on God every day rather than relying on his own abilities.
“The only way that I can truly become who God wants me to be and truly do what God wants me to do is not by my power, not by my might, but only by the Spirit of the Living God,” he wrote, concluding his message by thanking Jesus.
His comments are consistent with the bold faith he has displayed throughout his football career. After a game last season, Henderson joined New York Jets players in prayer and later told reporters, “I’m so weak without Him. I really mean this from the heart, I can’t do it without Jesus.”
He also spoke about learning to trust God’s plan, explaining that he simply strives to be faithful while leaving the results in the Lord’s hands.
Henderson’s social media presence continues to reflect that same conviction. His X biography reads, “Jesus Saved My Life,” followed by the words, “Football Is What I Do, A Child Of God Is Who I Am.” His profile header declares, “I am nothing without God,” while a pinned post describes him as “living proof of what the mercy of God can do,” alongside Ephesians 2:4-5.
His faith also influences how he uses his platform. During last season’s NFL #MyCauseMyCleats campaign, Henderson chose to support Global Christian Relief, an organization that advocates for persecuted Christians worldwide.
As training camp ramps up and expectations grow for the young running back, Henderson’s message serves as a reminder that true strength isn’t found in talent, discipline, or athletic ability alone. For him, every step on the field begins with complete dependence on Christ.
