Jonathan Roumie is opening up about the emotional reality of preparing to say goodbye to the role that changed his life — portraying Jesus in The Chosen.

Speaking with CBN News on the red carpet at the K-LOVE Fan Awards, Roumie admitted the approaching end of the series feels “extremely bittersweet.”

“It’s been 8 years of my life in this role and deepening my relationship with my faith in Christ, so it’s going to be sad to see it go,” the actor said.

Since the series premiered in 2019, “The Chosen” has grown into a global phenomenon, reaching millions of viewers and turning Roumie into one of the most recognizable faces in Christian entertainment. But the actor said the experience has been about far more than career success.

Roumie explained that while it will be difficult to move on from the role, he believes God has already been preparing him for whatever comes next.

“But the Lord has used it to prepare me for the next phase of my career, whatever that may look like,” he said.

The actor also reflected on the unlikely path that brought him to the role of Jesus, describing his success as nothing short of miraculous.

“It’s a miracle that I’m here — that I’m standing here,” Roumie said. “Words don’t describe … the odds of me making it through are astronomical. It’s like making it to the Olympics.”

He continued by giving God the credit for opening doors in his life and sustaining him throughout the demanding series.

“There’s so few people who get the opportunity to do this, and the fact that the Lord allowed me an opportunity to break through, and be seen, and provided me with the talent to sustain the series — it just blows my mind,” he said. “I’m grateful every day.”

Roumie recently shared similar thoughts in a heartfelt Instagram post marking the anniversary of when his journey with “The Chosen” began.

“Eight years ago today, God changed the course of my life,” he wrote. “The road ahead seemed impassible and impossible, but He had other plans. And I couldn’t be more grateful.”

As filming continues toward the show’s conclusion, Roumie also asked fans to keep him in prayer as he navigates the final chapters of portraying Jesus onscreen — a role that has clearly transformed both his career and his faith journey.
