Willie Robertson is mourning the loss of his father, Phil Robertson, the beloved patriarch of the “Duck Dynasty” family, who passed away Sunday at the age of 79. Known as a faithful Christian, devoted family man, and founder of the Duck Commander brand, Phil’s life and legacy are being celebrated not just by his family but by millions who were inspired by his walk with Christ.

In a moving tribute posted to Instagram, Willie reflected on his father’s life, faith, and their final moments together.

“I remember Phil’s many prayers on Memorial Day and all the times with my dad,” Willie wrote. “I don’t have enough words to tell of all of it; perhaps it will take months or years of remembering.”

The post featured a carousel of photos—many from their years filming Duck Dynasty—along with more personal family moments. One photo showed Willie as a child break dancing, a playful memory he echoed in one of their final interactions.

“Right at the very end of his life, I came into his room… I did another dance,” he shared. “In a much weaker voice, he simply said, ‘Will, you got moves I didn’t know you had.'”

But beyond the laughter and family fun, Willie emphasized what truly bonded him and his father: their shared faith.

“Most of our conversations were not about hunting or business,” he said, “but about sharing the Gospel. He was the Real Deal, the same on Sundays as Fridays.”

Willie revealed that one of his proudest moments was writing the book Gospeler, based on conversations with his father about faith and evangelism. Phil lived out the Great Commission, Willie said and taught him the eternal value of spreading the Good News.

In a moment that struck the hearts of many, Willie shared Phil’s final words to him: “You’re my brother.”

“It made total sense to me,” Willie wrote. “He always told me we were coworkers in the Kingdom of God. Maybe that’s why I always just called him Phil. Not sure if he is up in Heaven now doing his own dance moves for our Father.”

Phil was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in December 2024 but remained a powerful witness for Christ until the end.

“Phil, I love you and already miss you,” Willie wrote. “Thank you for raising me the right way and teaching me the most important lesson to prepare me for the day you passed on. Not sure how people deal with loss without the Lord.”

Willie’s daughter, Sadie Robertson Huff, also shared a heartfelt tribute to her “Papaw Phil,” tying his life to Scripture: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV).

“One of the last things he said to me was, ‘Full strength ahead!’ Amen!” Sadie added.

Korie Robertson, Willie’s wife, confirmed the news of Phil’s passing, writing that while the family was grieving, they were also “celebrating that Phil is now with the Lord.” She said a private service would be held, with details about a public memorial forthcoming.

Phil Robertson’s life touched countless others through Duck Dynasty, which aired for 11 seasons on A&E from 2012 to 2017. At its peak, the show drew nearly 12 million viewers, making it one of the most successful reality series of its time. A revival of the show Duck Dynasty: The Revival was recently announced and will focus on Willie, Korie, their children, and grandchildren.

As the Robertson family looks ahead, they do so with the faith and hope that Phil instilled in them—a legacy rooted not just in family values but also in God’s eternal promises.
