New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston gave God the glory after another dramatic victory Sunday, pointing to a Bible verse on his wristband as the team overcame the odds.

Winston led the Giants to his second victory since taking over as the starting quarterback following Jaxson Dart’s knee injury.

The game ended in spectacular fashion when Giants cornerback Deonte Banks returned an interception 96 yards for a touchdown on fourth-and-goal as time expired.

As Banks spoke with CBS Sports after sealing the win, Winston walked over and began reading Philippians 3:13-14 from his wristband.

“Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, my brother!” Winston shouted before embracing Banks. “That’s one thing I do.”

Moments later, Winston was asked about the victory and immediately credited God.

“Praise God,” Winston said. “Unwavering faith, people coming through when they needed to come through. It was only by the grace of God, man.”

Winston called Banks’ game-ending interception one of several “supernatural things” that happened during the game, while also crediting his teammate’s preparation and hard work.

“I believe in miracles, but that was preparation, that was hard work, and that was just a divine interaction for Tae Banks, just getting off his injury, never giving up and coming back to get a pick-six and seal the day,” Winston said. “Man, wow. Wow. Thank you, Lord.”

Winston experienced plenty of adversity himself. The veteran quarterback threw two interceptions but also tossed three touchdown passes, making the verse on his wristband particularly fitting.

“I’m so grateful for the word of God,” Winston said. “One thing I do is forgetting that which is behind me and reaching forward to what is ahead.”

“It looked like the odds were against us — it really did. But God found a way,” Winston continued. “How great is He? His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, His ways are better than our ways. That’s only His grace.”

Winston also praised Giants head coach John Harbaugh, describing him as a “Kingdom man” and crediting him with shaping the team’s culture.

“Our head coach is tenacious,” Winston said. “Our head coach is instilling every one of these qualities in us, and it’s really a beautiful thing to see.”

The victory moved New York to 3-1 and into sole possession of first place in the NFC East, a position the franchise has rarely enjoyed over the past decade.

For Winston, the wild finish also provided a fitting illustration of the Scripture he carried with him Sunday: leave what happened behind and keep reaching toward what is ahead.
