Comedian Carrot Top was spotted visiting a Catholic church in Las Vegas just weeks after being hospitalized following a suicide attempt.
The 61-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Scott Thompson, appeared in good spirits Sunday at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church, according to TMZ.
Carrot Top was photographed wearing a light blue shirt and jeans while waiting in line to speak with a priest; the reason for his visit and the nature of his conversation were not disclosed.
The church appearance marks one of the first public sightings of the longtime Las Vegas performer since his hospitalization in September.
TMZ previously reported that Carrot Top was rushed to a hospital after taking pills in an attempt to end his life at his Las Vegas home. He remained under medical care for several days before being released.
The incident came amid a legal dispute involving Carrot Top and former friend Brian Evans over an alleged sexually explicit video involving the comedian.
Carrot Top’s attorneys have accused Evans of attempting to extort the comedian over the video. Evans has strongly denied the allegations and has also rejected suggestions that he was responsible for Carrot Top’s suicide attempt.
While Carrot Top has not publicly explained what led him to visit the Catholic church on Sunday, his decision to attend and wait to speak with a priest in person comes at a particularly difficult moment in his life.
The comedian has been a fixture of the Las Vegas entertainment scene for decades, becoming famous for his energetic performances, distinctive red hair and extensive use of props. He has headlined in Las Vegas for more than 20 years.
Carrot Top has not publicly shared extensive details about his religious beliefs, making the church visit notable but leaving its significance unclear.
His appearance on Sunday offered an encouraging sign after his hospitalization, with the comedian back in public and seemingly seeking time inside a church as he continues recovering from the September crisis.
