For the first time in nearly a decade, Aaron Rodgers is publicly celebrating something many fans never expected to see: a joyful reunion with his parents. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback says the journey toward healing was years in the making—and credits his wife, Brittani, with helping make it possible.
During a recent appearance on Good Morning Football, Rodgers reflected on repairing his relationship with his parents, Ed and Darla Rodgers, after nearly 12 years of estrangement. The reconciliation, he said, has become one of the most meaningful developments in his life.
“A big part of it was getting married and having those conversations with my wife that allowed me to kind of open up to the possibility of coming together,” Rodgers said. He explained that restoring those relationships didn’t happen overnight, describing it as “a couple-year process” built on honest conversations, patience, and healing.
Rodgers also addressed the years of public speculation surrounding his family’s well-known rift, saying he wanted to move beyond the narrative that has followed him for so long.
“There’s been a narrative that’s gone on for too long that I kind of wanted to shut down,” he said. “It’s been really beautiful to reconnect with them, all of them.”
His comments came just days after he shared heartwarming photos on Instagram showing himself smiling alongside his parents. In one image, his mother embraces him as the two smile for the camera. Another shows Rodgers standing arm-in-arm with his father. He captioned the post simply, “Another bonding week,” along with the hashtag #fam.

The family estrangement first became public in 2016 when Rodgers’ younger brother, Jordan, spoke about their fractured relationship during an appearance on The Bachelorette. While the reasons behind the split have long been the subject of public speculation, Rodgers has rarely addressed them directly.
In a 2024 Netflix documentary, he acknowledged that differences in values, including aspects of his evangelical Christian upbringing, contributed to the growing distance between him and his family. He has also spoken openly in recent years about exploring alternative spiritual practices, including meditation, Ayurveda, and ayahuasca ceremonies.
Today, however, Rodgers says he’s focused less on the past and more on the relationships he’s rebuilding.
He recently spent a long weekend in Nashville with his parents, his brother Luke, Luke’s wife, and their two children—giving him the chance to enjoy a role he hadn’t experienced in years.
“I got to be an uncle,” Rodgers said. “It’s really special.”
For a relationship that once appeared beyond repair, the reunion represents a remarkable turnaround.
Rodgers also praised Brittani for supporting him throughout the reconciliation without ever pressuring him.
“I’ve got to give my wife a lot of credit,” he said. “Not that she was pushing me, because she never was, but just the way that she loves and supports me. Having her by my side during this process has been really special.”
Although Rodgers says the reasons behind the estrangement “don’t need to be talked about,” he’s thankful for where life has brought him today.
“I’m happy to be reunited,” he said. “That part of my life is a really beautiful addition.”
