Hulu is releasing a new show on August 18 that features 21 self-professed virgins looking for love. The show, entitled “Are you my First?” is hosted by Kaitlyn Bristowe and Colton Underwood, a former Bachelor contestant who later came out as gay. “In this groundbreaking new dating experiment, the largest, hottest group of virgins ever assembled search for intimacy, love – and maybe their first – in a tropical paradise designed just for them,” Hulu said of the show. Hulu stated the singles will be “free to explore their connections without judgment.”

The contestants are have decided to put sex on hold for a number of reasons, including Christian values, being too busy for a relationship, and waiting for the right person. One contestant, Jake, is a 32-year-old caregiver from Los Angeles who states “is still waiting to lose his virginity because his faith calls him to wait until marriage.” One contestant, Rachael, citing a health challenge. 28-year-old marketing manager Madi stated she has waiting because of a fear of intimacy.

The show will have 10 episodes, with promoters calling it “wild.” Despite their virginal status, the contestants certainly don’t give off the appearance of purity, with one contestant admitting to watching porn. Colton Underwood is not without his detractors either. In 2020, his ex Cassie Randolph filed for a restraining order, accusing him of stalking and harassing her. “Since their breakup, Mr. Underwood has been stalking and harassing Ms. Randolph. He has sent her unsettling text messages, repeatedly called her, and placed a tracking device on her vehicle to track her whereabouts,” the suit claimed. Underwood came out as gay in 2021 and made a vague apology, saying, “I would like to say sorry for how things ended. I messed up. I made a lot of bad choices.” Randolph responded to the news of his coming out with a diplomatic response, saying she was “very happy that he… is at peace with himself and not carrying that burden anymore, of course.” She also acknowledged that their relationship was “just overall hard time for me, so I feel like there was just one thing after another and I was just extremely overwhelmed with everything going on.”

The British documentary style show “Virgin Island” is another show that aired this year with a focus on virginity and sexual intimacy. The show took a much more clinical approach to the topic, however, connecting its subjects with professionals to help them through intimacy hang ups. The show has been renewed for a second season.
