The true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus, is once again the focal point of season two of the Disney+ series “The Santa Clauses,” where Tim Allen reprises his role as the mythical gift-giver. The 70-year-old actor starred as Santa Claus in the three-film series, “The Santa Clause,” “The Santa Clause 2,” and “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.”

Like in those films, both Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell, who played Mrs. Claus, returned to their famous roles for the streaming series. The first season of “The Santa Clauses” debuted on Disney+ last year, and season two recently started streaming on the platform. According to Daily Citizen, the writers of the show wasted no time in getting to the faith-based meaning of the Christmas season. In the second episode of the latest season, one of the elves in the North Pole is tasked with explaining the origin of Christmas to Santa Claus.

The elf said, “What we know as Santa all began with Saint Nicholas honoring the birth of Jesus.” The first season of the series also included a reference to the true meaning of Christmas, most likely due to Allen’s role as an executive producer for the family-friendly holiday series. Last year, during an interview with The Wrap, Allen said it was critical to him that the story of Jesus be presented at some point in the show.

He said of the Disney+ series, “It originally had a lot of otherworldly characters, and ghosts, and goblins. I said, ‘No, this is Christ-mas. It’s Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday. We don’t have to blow trumpets, but I do want you to acknowledge it; that’s what this is about. If you want to get into Santa Claus, you’re gonna have to go back to history, and it’s all about religion.” Allen’s daughter, Elizabeth Allen-Dick, also stars in “The Santa Clauses.”

As a description for the series notes, “The Santa Clauses” also features family as one of its most prominent themes. The description reads, “The beloved franchise returns! Scott Calvin, after twenty-eight years, reigns true as Santa Claus, leader of the North Pole and Christmas. With his family – Carol, Sandra, and Cal – by his side, and his elves at the reins, Scott Calvin contends with a changing world to keep the spirt of Christmas alive for a new generation.”
