Singer and actor Donny Osmond credits his father as the reason he’s never said a curse word. He told PEOPLE Magazine, “I never heard my father curse. He was tough, but he never swore.” Osmond admitted that he still “thinks the words,” saying, “There are certain people I would love to say certain words to at certain times, but I just think, ‘Be like your dad.’”

In addition to not cursing, Osmond has always maintained that he would avoid the usual pitfalls fame can bring to young stars. The singer said in an interview with Fox News, “I decided long ago that I wasn’t going to do it with scandals, trickery or promotional campaigns. I was going to do it with my music, which is a really difficult way to do it. But it happened. And it took me 10 years. But I wanted the music to speak for itself.”

Osmond said, “It’s very difficult to break out of the teenybopper career. But thank goodness that through perseverance and a lot of support from my fan base, it happened. But it takes an awful lot of work to be accepted as an adult.” Osmond recently shared that he’s extending his Las Vegas residency through May 2024, telling PEOPLE that he always says a prayer before going on. He explained, “Every time I see a packed house, I have an attitude of gratitude.”

Osmond also prioritizes his family. He and his wife, Debbie, share five children and 14 grandchildren. He shared, “It’s such a wonderful, warm feeling to see your child become a parent and to see them raise their own children and take on the kind of family traditions that Debbie and I have started. It’s such a great dynamic to see your children grow up to be parents. They graduate into that echelon of life just finding their own feet, finding their own wings.”
