In a stunning decision, the judge overseeing Britney Spears’ conservatorship on Wednesday suspended her father as one of her conservators.

The singer’s attorney asked for the suspension after Spears father was accused of “unfathomable” abuse towards Britney. The singer also accused her father, Jamie, of going as far as bugging her bedroom to eavesdrop and further control her life. Britney has been very open lately about her mental state and how the conservatorship has negatively impacted her life.

She was kept from having close friends and relationships. Her 2000 hit Lucky may have been a sad glimpse into her future. Britney stated in court that she felt very alone, and the people overseeing her estate did not see her as a person but merely a cash cow.

The one thing that Britney held onto during her battle for freedom was her faith. Spears was raised in Missippi and had been baptized as a Southern Baptist. She has dabbled in Kabbalist teachings but recently announced she converted to Catholicism.

Over the last few years, fans and friends of the pop princess started the #FreeBritney movement, which supported her release from the conservatorship. Stars were not afraid to speak out, and they let the world know how happy the bombshell ruling made them.

“I’m so happy for her,” said Demi Lovato. “She deserves to be free and live her life, and I think that’s going to happen, and it’s awesome.”

Cher thanks God in an emoji-filled tweet.

Icon Dionne Warwick was another star who shouted for joy as she tweeted, “This is wonderful news, Britney. Enjoy your life.”

Warwick had followed Spears’ case like many others and had previously chimed in with her thoughts on the conservatorship.

‘My heart goes out to Britney Spears, it really does. I feel her pain. How in the world could anyone endure what she has been enduring: 13 years of bondage because that’s exactly what it is. ‘

During court, Britney’s lawyer Matthew Rosengart had this to say to the judge.

“Britney deserves to wake up tomorrow without her father as her conservator. He is a cruel, toxic and abusive man.”

The judge granted Spears’ wish after listening to both council’s arguments for nearly an hour. She stated it was “in the best interest of the conservatee.”

When news broke outside the courthouse, tear-filled screams were heard in the streets.

For the first time in 13 years, Britney Spears can live her life completely unsupervised and without her father’s approval. Go Britney.
