Born-again Christian pop star Katy Perry, along with her husband Orlando Bloom, welcomed a beautiful new baby girl into their lives this week. The couple let UNICEF break the great news about their new bundle of joy on Instagram.

UNICEF is an agency out of the United Nations that provides aid to children around the world. They posted a black and white image of Perry and Bloom’s hands holding their newborn daughters. The two celebrities then reposted the photo and caption on their respective Instagram accounts.

In the caption, UNICEF started with “Welcome to the world, Daisy Dove Bloom! We are honored to introduce Goodwill Ambassadors @KatyPerry and @OrlandoBloom’s new bundle of joy.”

Katy and Orlando told UNICEF, who included it in the post, “We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter. But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was.”

“Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes,” the Instagram post continued. “Since COVID-19 many more newborn lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.”

Perry and Bloom set up a donation link for those who wanted to support UNICEF’s cause.

“In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB’s arrival,” their statement continues. “By supporting them, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your ♥️ can bloom with generosity,” the post concludes.

Katy Perry has grown tremendously over the last few years. Perry and Bloom struggled for about a year with keeping their marriage together, and Katy fell into a deep depression. Her ability to reconnect with God helped push her through.

“Hope has always been an option for me … because of my relationship with God and something bigger than me. If I’m the only one controlling my destiny of course, it’s going to be, like, I am going to drive it into the ground,” Perry said in an interview with CBC.

“It was so important for me to be broken so that I could find my wholeness in a whole different way. And be more dimensional than just living my life like a thirsty pop star all the time.”
