Chastity Bono, gay rights activist and daughter of Cher and the late performer Sonny Bono, has publically announced that she is underdoing gender reassignment and is transitioning from a female to a male.
Bono would like to be now be called Chaz, announced his spokesman Howard Bragman yesterday.

In a statement, Bragman said, “He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones. It is Chaz’s hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his ‘coming out’ did nearly 20 years ago.”
TMZ is also reporting that a sex change may allow Bono to marry his longtime girlfriend–if he petitions a judge to legally change his sex.
