My wife treated me to a special date last night.  We went to hear Jonny Lang, the amazing 20-something rock-blues singer-guitarist.  Amazing he was – we both said that was one of the best concerts we’ve ever been to.  If you don’t know Jonny Lang, check out his music; he’s terrific.  Such emotion, such rhythm, such fun!

We were sitting next to a very drunk couple, the guy frequently punching me in the shoulder to make a point, endlessly talking.  I just wanted so bad to ask him to be quiet and behave, but he was so drunk I was afraid he’d turn on me and the shoulder punches become jabs to the jaw any minute.  So my wife and I got up and moved.  We headed to the mosh pit.

There, a very large woman was dancing to the beat bigtime.  What a delight!  So we joined her.  Soon, lots of folks around us were dancing too.  No one cared about how they looked.  Jonny Lang was so outrageously great we lost our inhibitions to the music.  I’m a dancer, yes!  You know I am!  (click here to see me dancing all-out on YouTube)

I hadn’t danced at a concert in a while, though…

Last time was last year at an R.E.M. concert at Madison Square Garden.  Also, next to drunken revelers, but they weren’t so nice.  I did ask them to be quiet, but they were downright nasty and refused.  Shortly thereafter, we were all standing, then dancing in our seats.  Wild wooly dancing.  In no time the nastiness melted away and we were all friends united in the music and movement.

When is the last time you danced your ____ off at a concert?  Full-out dancing bigtime, without inhibition?  Please share the joyous memories by posting a comment below!

What song is so irresistible that you must must get up and dance to it?
