Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is facing a frightening health battle after doctors discovered multiple blood clots in his lungs, bringing his football season to an unexpected halt. In the midst of that news, his mother is sharing a powerful reminder about gratitude and how quickly life can change.
Just hours after the Eagles announced her son’s condition, Pamela Hurts posted a heartfelt TikTok message encouraging people to appreciate the blessings in their lives.
“Just a reminder, y’all, be grateful,” Pamela said in the video. “Be grateful for where you are and what you have because your life could change at a blink of an eye. Be grateful. What are you grateful for?”
Her words came as the Hurts family faced troubling news about the 28-year-old Super Bowl champion’s health.
According to a statement released by the Eagles and Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, the quarterback was initially diagnosed with superficial vein thrombosis, a blood clot in his left calf, after undergoing an ultrasound before Philadelphia’s Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Despite spending much of the night in the hospital, Hurts played in the Eagles’ 19-17 loss.
However, additional testing revealed a much more serious condition, deepening concern about his health.
Doctors determined that Hurts had developed deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning blood clots had formed in both lungs. Pulmonary embolisms can be life-threatening if untreated.
The diagnosis means Hurts will be sidelined for at least three months while undergoing treatment with blood-thinning medication. Although his season is effectively over, doctors remain optimistic about his recovery.
“He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment should only involve anticoagulation,” the statement said.
“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery. We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners.”
The statement also emphasized that doctors do not expect Hurts to experience long-term complications.
“More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.”
The health scare began after Hurts reported discomfort in his calf following an October 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He initially believed the injury was related to being stepped on by another player’s cleat.
A follow-up ultrasound later revealed that the clot had moved, prompting the Eagles to rule him out of their game against the Carolina Panthers. Further examinations uncovered clots in his lungs.
Hurts has been Philadelphia’s starting quarterback since late 2020 and has become one of the NFL’s most recognizable stars. He led the Eagles to two Super Bowl appearances, including their championship victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in 2025.
While football fans are understandably concerned about what his absence means for Philadelphia’s season, his family’s message keeps the situation in perspective.
For Pamela Hurts, the focus isn’t on touchdowns, championships or playoff hopes. It’s on appreciating life and the blessings that can sometimes be taken for granted.
Her simple question is a timely reminder for everyone, especially during life’s most uncertain moments.
“What are you grateful for?”
