Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is opening up about a deeply personal transformation, revealing that a life-threatening medical emergency led him to encounter God in a way he says has changed everything.
Hilton, known for his often controversial takes in the entertainment world, shared that he was hospitalized for three weeks beginning March 23 after battling severe sepsis and multiple infections. During that frightening ordeal, he says something unexpected happened — a spiritual awakening he describes as undeniable.
“God presented himself to me and then did something. Something I can only call miraculous… it was real, and this has been life-changing,” Hilton said in a candid video shared with his followers.
In a follow-up post, Hilton appeared visibly emotional, holding a Bible as he described what he called “happy tears” while rediscovering scripture.
“I’ve been reading the Bible, and so much of what is said here I had already been thinking of,” he said. “It’s just overwhelming in the best, most beautiful way.”
The experience has prompted Hilton to reflect on his past — and to take responsibility for it. Known for a career that often thrived on celebrity gossip and sharp criticism, he acknowledged the harm he believes he caused along the way.
“I made a lot of mistakes in my past. We all have. Nobody’s perfect,” he said. “But my mistakes are very public. The internet is forever. Receipts are forever. I carry with me deep shame and regret. I’m sorry.”
He added that he has already begun making amends, reaching out both publicly and privately to apologize to those he hurt.
“Because I was so selfish, because I didn’t care who I hurt. I just cared about the views, the attention, the money — people hated me,” Hilton admitted.
Now, he says, he’s seeing a different response as he shares his journey.
“Since I’ve been home, I haven’t been getting as much hate, and I’ve been getting love and prayers,” he said.
Hilton acknowledged that not everyone is receptive to his newfound faith, but he remains undeterred.
“I know that some people are fed up with me talking about God. You don’t have to watch these videos,” he said. “I love God. My experience was real. My testimony is important.”
The blogger, who said he was raised Catholic but never truly believed until now, shared that he’s excited to begin taking his children to church and building a new foundation centered on faith.
“What matters is today. How I behave today, how I behave tomorrow,” he said. “God gave me a new opportunity to truly be better and do better.”
His testimony has already drawn encouragement from several Christian entertainers. Actor Donnie Wahlberg wrote, “Keep your eyes fixed on Him,” while Candace Cameron Bure added that she is “faithfully praying” for him. Others echoed similar messages of support and prayer.
As Hilton continues his physical recovery, he says his spiritual renewal is just beginning — and he’s committed to walking a different path moving forward, one marked not by controversy but by conviction.
