He’s basically a nice guy and he can be pretty funny, but George Lopez couldn’t carry a late night show.

There’s no shame in that, as even bigger names have failed in the venture including Chevy Chase, Magic Johnson and many others.

I don’t want to make light of others’ failures, as we have all had our share, but I sensed trouble a few months back when I wrote the ads for George Lopez Tonight weren’t funny.

How then, could we expect the show ITSELF to be entertaining.

The network was gracious to Lopez in parting ways, but needs a much stronger program to follow up the lagging Conan O’Brien talk show.

TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of Lopez Tonight,” the network said in a statement. “We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air.”

Sometimes hard work isn’t enough, particularly in the late night battle, you MUST be funny too!
