What would we do without the NFL?

That question won’t have to be answered since the league and its players worked out an agreement to save the season.

Not only did DirecTV breathe a huge sigh of relief, so did ESPN and its gaggle of analysts who would otherwise have little to gab about.

It doesn’t even take the start of the season for some of them to overreach, either, as ex-Steelers back Merril Hoge did the other day in ripping into second-year quarterback Tom Tebow.

It was odd for a mediocre ex-player and fortunate-to-be broadcaster Hoge to be so critical of Tebow, a former Heisman trophy winner and just winner period to this point.

“It’s embarrassing to think the Broncos could ever win with Tim Tebow at quarterback,” Hoge tweeted.

Hoge is also safe in his assessment because Tebow will only start if No. 1 QB Kyle Orton gets hurt.

Tebow will be OK and get strength from his friends, family and relationship with Christ.

Hoge, meanwhile, will need to find more obvious targets if he’s going to keep firing away.
