Aloha,

I used to be terrified of flying. My fear was courtesy of my grandmother. My dad had a small plane and took me flying with him all the time. I loved it. Then he left me at his mother’s house for a short time, she hated flying and by the time he came back to get me I was so afraid I threw up just at the thought of flying. It was a very messy flight home to NY from East Mckeesport, PA.

I had no idea they had all sorts of names for fear of flying including aerophobia, aviatophobia, aviophobia or pteromerhanophobia. I continued to be afraid into my early thirties. Oddly enough being on a commercial flight that almost crashed relieved me of that fear.

Shortly after the plane took off it began to plummet and the pilot was able to pull the plane up just before we crashed. As we plunged toward the earth I thought, all in all not a bad way to die and then I imagined hundreds of angels under the plane holding it up. At that moment the airplane began to gain altitude. Did that thought change anything? I’ll never know for sure but since then whenever I fly I know there are angels under the plane carrying it safely to its destination. I haven’t been afraid since.

If you have fear of flying, I suggest asking the angels to hold you lovingly in their arms until your fear goes away. Whenever the fear returns know the angels are there for you. You can practice before you get on the plane too. See yourself going to the airport already surrounded my angels. Imagine feeling safe and relaxed as you board the plane. See yourself enjoying the flight and arriving at your destination totally relaxed and at ease.

With love and aloha,
Susan
