We are a sleep-deprived country. We don’t know how to take breaks without adding stimulants (caffeine, nicotine, sugar). Resting scares us. Face the fear.

Get to bed on time. Ayurvedic medicine says that “on time” is around 10, no later than 10:30, and that getting up at 6 or 6:30 is ideal. You may be a “night person,” but the teaching is that pre-midnight sleep is the more restorative. Whenever you’re willing or able to sleep, set aside enough time for it. Take breaks during the day to rest or pray or breathe or take a stroll. Yes, there’s a lot to do. So much, in fact, that you have to be well-rested.
