We have an ice rink about three blocks from us and my kids have always been skaters.  This year we had the wonderful experience of having both of our sons home at the same time.  So, they decided it would be a good idea for them to all go ice skating.

Matt hasn’t skated in many years. Jorden, 16, had only skated once before, and Jen and Erin had never skated before.  Jonathan and Stephanie have skated forever and still skate quite often.  Jonathan works part time at the Ashburn Icehouse in Virginia.  They have 4 boys.  Ben and David have been in hockey leagues for several years and now are both on traveling teams.  They have tons of medals and trophies.  Ben is 11 and David is 9.  They have twin brothers who are 4, Jesse and Joshua.  The twins got their first ice skates for their second birthday and have been skating ever since.  They already are taking lessons and can fly across the ice.  They are almost ready to join the Minnie Mites team.

Imagine the contrast on the ice that day.  Erin, 5, was using an ice walker to stay up.  She still hit the ice a lot. I have never seen an ice walker before, but it sure helped. Jorden just held on to the wall as she worked her way around the rink.  Jen was a little braver and Matt took right off.  It only took a few minutes to for him to remember how to skate.

I must say this was a very enjoyable experience for Grandma, who sat on  the sidelines taking pictures.  Great family bonding time.  Sore feet and sore bottoms were the problem of the day, but a good time was had by all.

God is so good.  He still surprises me sometimes.  I love my kids and grand-kids.  What a blessing they are to me.
