Have you noticed how the media has gone from an obsession over fires out West to  Edward Snowden to George Zimmerman to the royal baby? The media sets the agenda – what is important, what is center stage and for how long. Who gave them that power? We did! And we can take it back.

We need to demand real news. I am so sick of the Kardashians. Who are they and why are they important? Good grief. Who made Jay Z in charge – or Beyonce? They are talented celebrities. But that is all. They are not authorities on anything but entertainment. What is the real value of their work? Every once in a while I look at a celebrity website…I have no idea who these people are. I think they just have high-priced publicists who make sure they get to be famous for doing nothing substantial. We support it all by buying and reading or watching their outlets. I, for one call it quits!

There are fires still raging out west…and there are folks trying to put their lives back together again after a fire. Do we hear about it?  As far as I know Snowden is still in the Moscow airport. What he did was wrong but the media forcused on where he was rather than the government’s intrusion into our privacy. No one is talking about that- or if they are, the media is not reporting it.

I did hear today that Zimmerman helped a family whose car had overturned.  (I am sure someone will find a way to criticize him for it.) And we will be innundated with royal baby speculation. (I’ll enjoy it as much as the next person – maybe more – but in the scheme of things, is it all that important?) The situation in Syria with its staggering numbers of refugees fleeing into neighboring countries is more than tragic. It has the potential to destabilize that whole region which is vital to the world’s stability.  Does the media say much about that? Does our President? Why?

I am so grateful that I know God is on His throne. The world’s governments may think they are in charge. Wrong. God is. And as our world governments, UN Councils, Supreme Court, State Assemblies, Congress, Senates, Legislators make their pronouncements, “He who sits in the heavens laughs”.

We better pay attention!
