New research from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, WA, indicates that women who faithfully keep a food journal (operative word here … faithfully), who avoid skipping meals and limit eating in restaurants, lose more weight than those who do not follow those three simple guidelines.
Specifically, their research showed that:
- Women who kept food journals consistently lost about 6 pounds more than those who did not
- Women who reported skipping meals lost almost 8 fewer pounds than women who did not
- Women who ate out for lunch at least weekly lost on average 5 fewer pounds than those who ate out less frequently (eating out often at all meal times was associated with less weight loss, but the strongest association was observed with lunch) (Source: FHCRC.Org)

Get yourself a little notebook to write in, download any one of the many food tracking aps onto your smart phone; or, if keeping the traditional journal is just not your thing, have you considered being a foto-food journalist?
