The 2015 ESPY Awards recognized Caitlyn Jenner with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. The award is a sports-oriented award, but is not limited to sports-related people or actions, that recognizes individuals whose contributions transcend sports. Figures like Muhammad Ali, Nelson Mandela, Pat Summitt, and Robin Roberts have received this award in previous years.

Jenner recently announced to the world that she resonates as a transgender individual. Unannounced to the media and even family members, Jenner has struggled with identity issues for her entire life. At the age of 65, Jenner has finally decided to go public with her transformation and the truth that she has been living with for so many years. The ESPY’s recognized Jenner’s struggles and the bravery that it has taken to be so honest with the world.

Jenner is known as the only American to win gold in the Olympics for the Decathlon. Now Jenner is embarking on a new journey to help others who struggle with gender identity issues and most importantly to assist the world in accepting these differences that make everyone unique.
