Drew Barrymore to Direct ‘Twilight 3: Eclipse’? Oh No!

posted by Donna Freitas

drewbarrymore.jpgSo I thought that all-things “Twilight” would fade away with the end of 2008, but the series and talk of it is much like the Energizer Bunny–I see that now. It shows no signs of abating and so, alas, I shall keep posting about it.
The latest newsbit: EW has hinted that Drew Barrymore is on a seriously short list within Summit Entertainment to direct the third book in the “Twilight” Series: “Eclipse”. My immediate reaction is: PLEASE NO! Barrymore has a series of real misses as far as I’m concerned (she produced the “Charlie’s Angels” movies which I could not stand), and while she has some cute films I’ve enjoyed (“Fever Pitch” and “Never Been Kissed”), cute is really not the feeling I imagine “Eclipse” going for.
Can Barrymore evoke the angsty, star-crossed moods of Bella and Edward? I think not. And I’m surprised to find out she’s even come up as a possible director. What do you think?

PLEASE NO!!! I’ve seen Twilight and read the books she will totally ruin the series! Just imagine Edward and Bella under HER influence, I’m apallled that they would even think of her! 885w3y

I think she’ll do fine. Maybe she’ll draw upon her Firestarter days :)Plus, this is melodrama here, not “No Country for Old Men.” It’s as dark and angtsy as “The Young and the Restless.”
That being said, it’s a shame she didn’t get one of the other three books considering Eclipse is the only one that actually has a satisfying climactic battle.

i dont think she will do well. the books are exelent i love them .she will rowen. them

    No. No. No. No. NO!
Drew Barrymore has made her career on stupid/ditzy/ignorant movies. None of these words describe the mood of Eclipse. She is NOT the director for Eclipse.

I wonder what the fans of ‘Twilight’ will say hehe

I’M a huge fan of the Twilight saga, and no it’s not a “No country for old men” but to all of us fan’s it is extremely important that the film is as close to the book as posiable.I do like drew as a actress but I can’t see her getting this done the way it should be, They need someone who know’s their way around special effect’s (not just someone who has acted in front of a green screen!). I feel like they are just wanting to get these movies out fast 2 make money fast! They r not taking the time 2 think about how it will affect the fan’s, if they put this movie out and it doesnt do the book justice it will seriously upset us all!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    she will totally ruin it!!!!!!!!!
event tho ui liek some of her other films, Eclipse is not her genre.
    PLEASE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Just one more little “in defense of Drew” comment. So far left off of her list of credentials here was her work as executive producer (and actress) on Donnie Darko. How much more angsty and dark do we want? I’m not saying she’s my first choice, but I don’t think its the end of the world either. Clearly there is nothing cutesy or ditzy about that movie.

I think it would be awful. She is completely the opposite type of director that Eclipse needs. She won’t get the emotion of the whole thing. It’s not supposed to be this sweet and nice everybody’s friends part of the book/story. Sorry, but I think it would ruin it. That’s just my opinion.
