Paris Hilton, Role Model?

posted by Ellen Leventry

paris-released_idol.jpgWe’ve called Paris Hilton many things here at “Idol Chatter,” but I’m not certain anyone has dubbed her a role model. But that’s exactly how the hotel heiress sees herself, according to Reuters (via TMZ.com).
“I work very hard and I’ve built this empire on my own,” she recently told the news agency while judging a beauty pageant in Turkey. “I think this is an inspiration for a lot of girls out there.”

Putting aside the fact that she really doesn’t need to work to put food on the table, I would agree that Hilton has worked very hard to create an empire from nothing, perpetrating the Paris character on the public in such a way that she has gained some legitimacy as a businesswoman. Her perfume is a top-seller and she just released a shoe collection and hair extension line. Her self-promotion saavvy is second to none.
On the other hand, what kind of an inspiration is she really to young girls, having at least one sex tape under her belt and a short jail sentence? While scandal and jailtime seem to be de rigueur amongst young Hollywood right now, having a sex tape and a catch phrase–”That’s Hot!”–are not exactly things I would want my teen relatives to aspire to.
What are your thoughts on Paris Hitlon as role model–Hot or Not?

    Hi !
I do agree some of her past isn’t so great …I know little of her really–other than the things I read in the paper (sometimes this isn’t all truths either & then somtimes it is). However it not up to us to judge this young woman?
Would there be any possability that she has done things in her past she regrets— the past cannot be unwritten –but it can be forgiven.

I know a limo driver who drove her around. Said she was a very very nice person. A little bit of a teen and “girlie” and chatty and whatever, but very very nice.
But, why exactly are we discussing the issue of Paris Hilton being a role model?
Aren’t there other choices we can look to???
Would seem so…like all those people working hard, day to day, in charities, trying to help other people….all those teachers working hard, day to day to educate and help kids…social workers, therapists….ministers, priests and rabbis and on and on. So many examples.

I don’t feel that Paris Hilton’s life has been a life of a role model. She has been made famous by selling her appearances at the opening of Night Clubs, driving under the influence, and dressing up in hair pieces and promoting lucid comments .. some being racial. There are too many pictures of her with a glass of what ever she drinks, in her hand.
Not to say that she can’t turn her life around. My suggestions for her is to do something positive like supporting children, seniors and showing her face in a community where she can make a difference.
God is a God of second chances, when I look at her I see that there is a compassionate young woman that has been taken up by agents in a business that can involve you in losing sight of who you truly are. She can become an example of what not to do.

This is not who I would want my teen daugther to look up to. How can anyone say she created her own empire. Were it not for the Hilton name, this girl’s celebrity status would be non-existence. Who would care if she had a DUI or a sex tape? She is in denial if she thinks those doors would have opened up without her family name. She is basically talentless and self absorbed. Is she talking about her sister? Her sister used her family name to open doors (and why shouldn’t she) and built upon that for herself. Nikki is the role model. Perhaps Paris should take a good look at her sister and use her powers for good.

Well, do we know her really? No. But, if she’s pitching herself, now, as a role model, she is inviting critique of her image and behavior such as we can tell, from her behavior in public.
And based upon that? No, she’s not a role model. Doesn’t make her the worst person around, but.. it does mean that if I had a daughter, I wouldn’t want my daughter to pattern her behavior on Paris Hilton.
Which is, after all, what a role model is for.

    NOT! NOT! NOT!

I think she is spoiled, but a nice person under all that money. signed rbrtspeaker

NO! IF ANYONE WOULD EVEN THINK OF HER AS A ROLE MODEL FOR ANYONE THAN WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TOO. WHAT SHE DOES SHOW IS THAT MONEY IS POWER AND CAN BUY ANYTHING AND ANYONE. I WOULD NEVER AND PRAY THAT NEITHER OF MY TWO DAUGHTER BECOME ANYTHNG CLOSE TO HER. BEFORE I WOULD EVEN THINK THAT I WOULD HAVE A CHILD LIKE HER, I WOULDN’T HAVE ANY. WITH THE MONEY AND “NAME” SHE SHOULD AND HAVE THE POWER TO DO GOOD.

A ROLE MODEL!!?? HOW CAN A GIRL WHO HAS MADE A SEX TAPE BE A ROLE MODEL? THIS IS A JOKE.! ALL SHE DOES IS WEAR CLOTHES THAT SHE GETS PAID TO WEAR. POSES,GOES TO NIGHT CLUBS EVERY NIGHT,DRINKS, GOES TO JAIL,CHANGES BOY FRIENDS EVERY DAY. DOES NOT KNOW THAT YOU CANNOT DRIVE WITH AN EXPIRED LICENSE. TRAVELS TO AFRICA,AND CALLS A PRESS CONFERENCE! THIS GIRL IS A REALLY SICK PERSON. SHE NEEDS HELP. MY DAUGHTER IS VERY BEAUTIFUL. VERY SLIM. HAS A BEAUTIFUL FIGURE. SHE IS SICK OF SEEING PARIS HILTON IN THE NEWS,AND ON TV. AS ALL OF MY FRIENDS ARE. SHE NEEDS TO GO AWAY!!!!!!!DON’T WASTE TIME WRITING ABOUT HER.

Paris Hilton is possibly the worst roll model for women and an added confusion for young men. How will they know how to be respectful to one another. Surely a pantyless Paris is not the way to gain personal respect.
As far as her business acumen, I do not believe for a moment that her connections and relatives caused her great “success.” Yes, she and Madonna (entertainer) have a great deal in common as self promoters, but do the real people actually have admiration and respect for them. If they were not rich, who would care?

  • Betty Hall

No, I think she is a terrible exanple one for young one forfor anyone and for sure she isn’t one for young teen age girls who look up to her.
There are some young girls that have some common sense that don’t though. I am a 72 year old mother and Grandmother and I think those youg starlets in Hollywood and all messed up.

Ahh to be young , pretty, and of the right blood and money stock. Paris could not bulit her way out of a wet paper bag. Her money and her name is what get her over in this great american society. She has never did anything for the good of society except to exploit it for her own self amusement. I would venture to challenge Ms. Hilton into taking some of her millions and actually doing some good by feeding the growing number of poor people we have in this country. I remember just before she went to jail, she said she found god. Within two weeks she found that she could not tolerate the expectations of being a born again christian. Was this for added publicity? You bet it was.
Paris a role model? Yeah I guess you could say that she is in her own special way. Just like there is a god, there needs to be a devil. Paris is a role model for those who choose a self indulgent life style that meets the approval of satan.
I predict that within two years, there will be an event in Paris’s life that will not change her for the good, and it will draw attention and focus to the problems excess life indulgencies. God will get his payback.

I think Paris Hilton needs a reality check. If it weren’t for her name HILTON where would she be.Look at her,in 3years she will be thirty, not what she acts. And what I don’t understand is,is why is it that people with the money are always helping out other countries, and yet no one seems to care about the people of the U.S. There are people who work hard for the money, and then there are those who inherit it,
and don’t know what to do with it.Also I didn’t know GOD was missing when she said she found him.Maybe she should become someone who goes state to state and helps the old folks out. She’ll be there in another 30years herself.

Paris Hilton hasn’t got a clue about what it is really like to earn a living. To put food on the table for a family and to live a life beyond yourself. All of it is for Paris and to keep Paris’ name in the public domain. It would come as a complete shock to her to find out that life is not one beauty pagenant and party after another. My heart actually goes out to her because she has no idea what a REAL LIFE is.

She is busy as usual , making money, because her Grandfather, Wise Soul, will not be leaving her wealthy. She is not a role model for anything Positive to any age group. The one’s who swoon over her are star struck and usually self centered individuals. Why she is constantly in the News each day is SAD, There are so many unsung Heroes who give of their selves constantly with no reward much less acknowledgement.I am 48 years old and have seen the world’s morals and meaning become far & few between. Don’t get me wrong, I am still with it and to the moment on all current’s but believe a Soul is not worth losing.

I feel that Paris has certainly made some mistakes but being lazy is not one of them. Where other super rich girls simply live off the family fortune, Paris is out there working. She acts, sings, has a perfume line make public appearences and does TV. Sure she plays a role of a sexpot but it is basically in good fun. Didn’t Marliyn Monroe, Dagmar, Jayne Mansfield and others do similiar personas?
We don’t put Tina Louise down for playing Ginger on Gilligan’s Island. There are many gals in Hollywood who have bigger problems that Paris. The problem that comes into play with them is DRUGS. This is something that to date has not come into play with Paris.
In closing, can Paris improve…sure. Has she done a great deal of possitive…more tyhan many.

What IS a role model in this day and time? The tabloids extoll Paris, Britney and Lindsay, but what FOR? To watch a train wreck is just about as exciting as watching these spoiled rotten women dance on table tops and sell their sex for money (isn’t that called prostitution?).
If I had a daughter, I would NOT want her to emulate Paris Hilton. With all her money, she lacks character. The next party is ALL she has to live for. I don’t believe her singing career, her perfume line, or her hair extensions will last long after she is gone. Icons like Marilyn Monroe, Dagmar, etc., ARE remembered, primarily because of their ideals, romance, and personalities.
The world will keep turning with or without Ms. Hilton. If she decides to use her wealth for GOOD instead of Jimmy Choos or Diane Von Furstenburg, then she COULD become a viable role model for this vapid generation.

i think she is a sexy cool role model. with some sweet legs. peace sexy.

  • nanabear

What was it someone once said “bad press is better than no press”. I suppose that Paris had rather be talked about and noticed no matter what the paper says. How sad. I do not think she is role model. I think she is a sad little lost girl hiding herself away. The really sad part is what the young girls of today see her as. Perhaps wild free or rich who knows. I would definately not want my child or grandchild acting as she does.

  • Yvonne Sliwinski

Paris Hilton is not a role model , but I believe she is a good person that has many people take advantage of her.

  • Keith

If I had a daughter I would want her to be just like Paris Hilton.

  • Your Name

Dude I’m sixteen years old and I keep reading all these comments saying how young girls look up to Paris…What?? Who told yall that? I have tons and tons of friends and none of us look up to her. So please stop putting it out there that we think she is a role model! I mean I do like her perfume and clothes but that doesn’t mean i like her drunk driving behavior! And news flash she didn’t sleep with anyone for money! That was her boyfriend and she loved him! He is the Jurk for exposing the tape!
