The Deacon's Bench

What hath Queens wrought?!

posted by jmcgee

This popped up over at The Anchoress this morning, and I was flabbergasted. I know this gal! Mary Anne Marks is in my parish!

Now, a degree from Harvard under her belt, she’s about to enter religious life, joining the order featured recently on Oprah.

Check this out. You can also read the text right here. We’re all very proud of you, Mary Anne. (What’s Latin for “You go, girl!”?)

Thank you so much for posting this, Deacon Greg. Mary Anne is a lovely young lady, who is a wonderful role model and inspiration. She and her parents are a blessing to our parish. Congratulations, Mary Anne on having graduated from Harvard. May God bless you as you prepare to enter the religious life!

Hope she has a happy, useful life in her order. Entering one is a huge decision. Wonder what she majored it at Harvard.
[Pagan…Classics and English. And obviously, she did her Latin homework. Dcn. G.]

What’s happening with the Anchoress’ page? This afternoon I get a message that her page is an “attack page” and that it would be dangerous for me to go to her website.

I just got the same warning as Rudy, below. Text reads as follows:
Reported Attack Page!
This web page at http://www.firstthings.com has been reported as an attack page and has been blocked based on your security preferences.
Attack pages try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system.
Some attack pages intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners.
[I asked her about it, but she doesn’t know what’s up…Dcn. G.]

Hi Deacon Greg,
One of our PIME Missionaries is a former Latin teacher and he’d like to contact Mary Anne. Might you have a mailing address or email for her? Thanks so much!
Cathy

Truly amazing! It’s heartening to see that the Classics aren’t quite dead yet! May she go on to do great things in her vocation! Ad multos annos!
